Congress charged NSCEB with the responsibility of examining the critical intersection of emerging biotechnology and national security. When Congress created the Commission, it defined the Commission’s formal mandate as conducting a thorough review of how advancements in emerging biotechnology and related technologies will shape current and future national defense activities, including activities of the Department of Defense. The Commission will submit its comprehensive report to Congress in 2025, which will include policy recommendations that respond to our mandate. The work of the Commission will continue through 2026 as we work to educate and expand upon our recommendations.
